A Fort Worth home was going up in flames on Wednesday when Good Samaritans noticed a 78-year-old man was inside.
The fire destroyed the home on Misty Meadows Drive on Wednesday afternoon.
Anthony Jackson and his wife were driving nearby when they saw the fire. As they came upon the fire, Jackson was rolling video on his cell phone and saw another person running to the house.
Jackson says he put the phone down and jumped out of the car and ran to help when he realized someone was inside.
“As we ran around to the side of the house, the fire was already coming out the side of the window,” said Jackson.
He says they rescued the man just as the flames started coming out of the window.
“The gentleman was trying to come out the window, but there was fire shooting from behind him,” said Jackson.
The fire department says the 78-year-old man was alone in the house.
Firefighters fought the fire from the outside when it looked like the roof would collapse.
Then, ammo in the house started going off.
A bullet was found in a driveway two houses down.
For safety and because of the risk of flare ups, several weapons were removed from the house.
Jackson says he lost a niece and nephew in a fire and he was compelled to make the rescue.
“Things happen for a reason,” said Jackson. “God must have been looking out for everybody."
