A Humane Society of North Texas volunteer rescued eight puppies from a trashcan at a Fort Worth park.

What We Know: The Humane Society says volunteer Matt McEntire was walking his dog at Crestwood Park on New Year's Day when he heard a sound coming from a garbage can.

When he walked over to the can, he found eight small puppies.

He walked them to his home one by one.

The 8-week-old puppies are being checked out by a medical team.

The Humane Society says that if everything goes well, the puppies will be ready for adoption next week.

What We Don't Know: At this time, we don't know who left the puppies in the trash can.
