Fatal crash in Richardson delays DART trains

A driver who went around the crossing arms died after being hit a Dallas Area Rapid Transit train.

DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said it happened just before 6 a.m. near the intersection of Spring Valley Road and Buckingham roads in Richardson.

The driver apparently ignored the crossing arms and was hit by a northbound Red Line train. The driver was extricated and taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Two passengers on the train were also hurt and one was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The crash is affecting commuters who use DART’s Red and Orange lines. Both are shut down between the LBJ/Central and the Spring Valley stations.

Passengers are being transferred to shuttle buses and should expect delays for most of the morning.
