Family remembers college-bound Saginaw teen fatally shot
The family of a murdered teenager in Saginaw describes him as a young man who had a bright future and big dreams with a birthday just around the corner.
Saginaw police have been questioning people trying to get them to cooperate with leads to track down the man who shot and killed a 17-year-old high school senior. It happened in the middle of the day less than a block from his home.
The memorial at the spot where a young man was killed marks the memories of those who loved Jordan Miles
“He had so many big milestones we were looking forward to,” said his uncle, Norman Miles. “Tomorrow would have been his 18th birthday and his graduation was two weeks off."
The family says a friend called miles Saturday afternoon to meet in a cul-de-sac about three houses down from his home. His uncle wonders if Jordan was lured into a trap.
“These people came to his home and invaded his community,” said Norman.
Witnesses told police they thought they saw three people in what police describe as a maroon compact car. Police say they have not identified the shooter. Even the family's not sure if Jordan knew everyone in the group.
“We do know there are people that he knew very well who were involved with at least the initial bringing together of the parties who were involved in the assault,” said Norman.
It's also not clear if any witnesses saw the shooting. Neighbors who live on the cul-de-sac say they heard an argument and then one shot. Jordan was taken to the hospital where he died.
Police escorted a young man to their pickup truck Monday afternoon. The uncle says it was one of Jordan’s friends police wanted to interview. Police have not identified any suspects.
Jordan was a senior at Saginaw High School. The school made extra counselors available for students.
His family says Miles was trying to settle on a college where he could study engineering.
"We're grieving obviously,” said Norman. “But for the 17 years, we had him. He was a wonderful, wonderful young man."
