Woman hit by Dallas police squad car

A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a Dallas police car. Police say the officer was responding to a call without lights and sirens activated.

A woman died after being hit by a Dallas police squad car.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said the crash happened Monday around 7 p.m. Elam Road in Pleasant Grove.

An officer was responding to a service call and was heading east on Elam Road without lights or sirens.

The woman ran across the road in front of two cars trying to turn left. That’s when she was hit by the squad car, the chief said.

The officer began life-saving measures right away, and the woman was rushed to the hospital. She did not survive.

"It's a tragedy to the pedestrian, to her family. It's a tragedy to our officer as well. It's something we don't want to go through," Garcia said.
