Duncanville High School confirms social media threat a hoax
DUNCANVILLE, Texas - Duncanville High School officials are now calling a threatening image posted on social media a hoax.
“Police have reached a point in their investigation where they have determined that the social media message that began circulating yesterday is a hoax. There is no credible threat at Duncanville High School,” Duncanville ISD spokeswoman Lari Barager said.
Principal Tia Simmons sent an email to parents late Tuesday night to let them know about “a concerning message on a social media application.” That message contained an image of a gun with the captions, “Don’t come to school tmm guys” and “all dhs students don’t come to school tomorrow.”
“My administrative staff and I are currently in direct communication with local police as they work to identify the person who posted the message and determine the validity of it,” Simmons told parents.
Barager said administrators will continue to work with police. Any student found to be responsible will be disciplined according to the Student Code of Contact.
There was an increased security presence on the campus as students arrived for class Wednesday morning.
Simmons assured parents the safety of students is a high priority.
