Dr. Ben Carson addresses Tea Party group in Irving

Presidential candidate, Dr. Ben Carson spoke to a group from the Northeast Tarrant County Tea Party Saturday morning in Irving.

While speaking to the crowd of about 300 people, Carson said special interest groups have been reaching out to him, but he won’t accept their money.

“I want to create ladders of opportunity so people climb out of the depths of dependency,” Carson said, which prompted a large round of applause from the crowd.

There were long lines before the event and many people were turned away due to fire code restrictions. He took time to speak to the overflow crowd outside the event for about five minutes, before going inside.
