DPS trooper critically injured after being struck on Dallas North Tollway

What we know:

A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper was struck while responding to a crash on a Dallas highway in far North Dallas early Monday morning.

The trooper was working on a single-car wreck in the northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway near Keller Springs Road shortly after 12:40 a.m.

A second vehicle collided with the trooper’s SUV before hitting the trooper.

The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

The trooper was transported to Plano Presbyterian Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

All northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway are closed as officials investigate the crash.

What we don't know:

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and strike the trooper.

Authorities have not released the trooper's identity.
