Dallas police are investigating a series of attacks on women walking alone in Uptown.
At least four women have been attacked over the past 14 months. Each incident happened on a Sunday morning. In each case, the women were grabbed from behind.
Shannon George says pepper spray will now be on her shopping list after a woman in Uptown was assaulted Sunday.
"When I saw that the incident happened literally at my apartment, it kind of freaked me out,” George said.
Dallas police issued a warning for Uptown residents after the assaults. All of them happened Sunday mornings between 12:45 and 2:30 while the victims were walking alone.
"I've always thought this was such a very safe neighborhood. I moved here specifically to this neighborhood because of how safe it was,” said Marissa Marak. “So it really is shocking to hear that there is even one assault, granted four."
The first assault happened on Oct. 2 of last year when a 26-year-old woman was walking to her apartment at Fairmount and Carlisle. Police say she was grabbed from behind and assaulted.
Two months later, a 23-year-old woman walking near Maple and Cedar Springs was assaulted.
“It's just me and my dog, so a lot of times I tried to be very aware of my surroundings,” Marak said. “I don't necessarily walk with mace, but I'm kind of thinking maybe I should now."
The third assault happened to a 24-year-old woman in the same area as the second attack on July 23 of this year. Police say he also grabbed her from behind and stopped only after she kicked him off of her.
The most recent attack happened this past Sunday in the 2800 block of Cole Avenue. Police say the attacker pushed a 23-year-old into a stairwell near her apartment.
Laura and Will Dunham always walk together in a community where safety warnings seem to be increasing.
"It's crazy,” Laura said. “We are both from here, born and raised in Dallas not far from here. And crime wasn't like this when we were growing up."
"I used to feel safe with her taking the dog out alone, but certainly not anymore,” Will said.
None of the victims were able to give police a detailed description of their attacker. Police are not sure if they are looking for the same suspect in all four attacks.
