Dismembered body found in woods near Grapevine Lake
GRAPEVINE, Texas - A popular park in Grapevine was closed for several hours Wednesday after a woman’s body was found dismembered and burned in the wooden area.
Police say they got a call around 6:30 a.m. about a woman's body found in the Acorn Woods Park near the south end of Grapevine Lake.
Police have not said who found the body but say it appeared to have been burned on site. They also aren't releasing the possible age of the victim or whether there was a weapon found at the scene.
"The location of the actual body was several yards away from one of the parking spaces of the actual park itself,” explained Grapevine Police Sgt. Robert Eberling.
The FBI and Texas Rangers were called in to help with the case.
"I am horrified and scared. I've never been afraid around here," said Jody Williams. "I mean, I've always been afraid of animals and creatures but not anything that you just described."
The Grapevine Fire Department patrolled the shore of the lake by boat near where the body was found to keep the scene secure.
Grapevine police say they are not aware of any missing person reports within their department.
This is the first murder the city of Grapevine has had all year.
