People can beat the heat and get an early start on a visit to the Dallas Zoo in August.
Starting Monday, the zoo opens its doors an hour early at 8 a.m.
The extra morning hour gives visitors a chance to see how the staff and animals get ready for the day. Guests will also have a better chance to see the zoo's new baby gorilla, who is usually out in the habitat with the rest of the family troop first thing in the morning.
For an up-close animal encounter, the giraffe feeding platform will also open early at 8 a.m.
The early hours will last through the end of the month.
