Dallas Veterans Parade, other events in North Texas to honor veterans

DALLAS - Veterans will be honored with events across North Texas today – it’s Veterans Day.

This year’s Dallas Veterans Parade commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Seven WWII veterans will serve as grand marshals.

“If you really look at it, this greatest generation, they saved the world from the evil that we had going on at that time, the Axis powers. And you can imagine what it would be like if we hadn’t have won it. They did preserve our liberties and freedoms that we continue to enjoy today,” said Lt. Col. King Moss II, the parade’s chairman.

The 11 a.m. parade starts at Reunion Arena. It will proceed north on Houston Street, east on Main Street, south on Ervay Street, west on Young street, south on Akard Street and pass in front of Dallas City Hall.

The Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery will also host a ceremony at 3 p.m. The U.S. Army's First Cavalry Division Band and the Dallas Baptist University Legacy choir will perform.

There will be music and barbecue at the Red, White and Blues Festival at Southern Methodist University. It's free and open to the public in the Umphrey Lee Center's Mack Ballroom at 11:30 a.m.

Flower Mound is holding a Veterans Day relay run at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Activity Center located at 1200 Gerault Road. It will raise funds for the Denton County Veterans Coalition

In Irving, country stars Chet Stevens and Josh Ingram will perform at a wounded warrior concert. Doors at the Ranch at Las Colinas open at 5 p.m.
