Dallas police are working to track down a murder suspect for a crime that was committed in front of several people last weekend.
Francisco Najara was killed outside a busy strip center in the 9600 block of Webb Chapel Road near Dallas Love Field on last Saturday about 3 p.m.
Najara was walking down the sidewalk and saying something when the suspect, with a gun in his hand, casually walks up and shoots him point blank in the head. The suspect then turns and walks away before breaking into a run.
“I think he was specifically targeted,” Dallas PD Det. Jeff Loeb. “The guy kind of acted as an assassin. He put on baseball cap, he put on sunglasses and he had a heavy thick beard -- which according to some people may be part of a disguise that he was wearing. He disguised his look, he wore all black, he came over here with the intention of targeting one person only.”
Police are also trying to figure who is the person seen on video who attempted to walk the gunman away from the scene just moments before he opened fire.
Detctives said Najara had no criminal record and was married. But they also say someone had beef with him about something and Saturday they came where he was to settle the score.
The investigation is proving challenging for another reason as well.
“We've got a lot of people that are illegal in this area,” Loeb said. “They may feel that they could get deported if they come forward and cooperate with the investigation.”
Loeb says that won't happen and any eyewitness can remain anonymous.
