Dallas considers reducing bulk pickup
DALLAS - City leaders told council members Tuesday that the city is nearly fully staffed in sanitation after increasing wages.
After the city manager outlined his goals for the city on Tuesday, Dallas City Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn said the city should focus on the basics.
"We on council may have big ideas, but what do we hear from residents? Our trash is not picked up, streets are in bad repair, host of other problems," she said.
City leaders said they had cut down on missed bulk trash pickups from about 800 in May to 300 in September.
A pilot program to study the feasibility of reduced bulk pickup is underway now in six Dallas neighborhoods. Residents in those neighborhoods are being told where they can drop off bulky items themselves.
Brush is still being collected once a month.
