Arlington school placed on lockdown due to toy gun

A lockdown at Pearcy STEM Academy in Arlington on Thursday morning has been lifted after police determined there was no threat to the students or community.

What we know:

Arlington police said around 8 a.m. Thursday, school administrators called police to the school after receiving a report that a student may have brought a weapon to school.

The school was placed on lockdown.

School officials believed the student had a BB gun. They said the student was in the building before school started and not all the students were on campus.

The lockdown was lifted after about 25 minutes.

Police said the student was located, and the investigation revealed the student had a plastic toy gun in their backpack.

Officers determined that the student had sent a threatening text message prior to arriving on campus.

Therefore, the student was charged with making a terroristic threat and taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center.

What we don't know:

Because the student is a minor, his or her name will not be released. Police also didn't give the student's age.

There's no word on the student's motive.
