2 teens found dead after shooting in Royse City
ROYSE CITY, Texas - Police in Royse City in Rockwall County are investigating the deaths of two teenagers. They were found blocks from the high school.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Overstreet Lane, which is in the Woodland Creek neighborhood. Responding officers found the two teens dead at the scene.
Police haven’t released any details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. They’ve only said they believe a third person was involved and left before the officers arrived. They’re looking for that third person.
Royse City ISD didn’t release the teenagers’ names but confirmed one was a student at Royse City High School and the other was a former student. On Twitter, the district called it a “tragic situation.”
Royse City High School will have counselors on campus Monday to help any students or staff who are struggling with the loss.
Some neighbors said they’ve shared what could be useful information with investigators.
“Saw a vehicle of interest – I don’t really want to say anything more than I know – drive by and drive down here at 2:51 a.m.,” said Michael Parker, who lives in the area. “It’s concerning. I mean, it’s disheartening. It’s concerning.”
“I feel for any family that loses a young child or a loved one like that, you know? It’s just senseless that this kind of stuff has to happen,” said Wesley Massey, another neighbor.
Police are also asking neighbors to check their home security video to see if anything helpful was recorded.
Anyone with information should call Royse City PD detectives Dail and Torres at 972-636-9422.
