2 hurt in east Dallas apartment fire
DALLAS - Two people were hurt in an early morning apartment fire in east Dallas.
The fire started around 3 a.m. at the Casa Bella Apartments on Peavy Road, near Buckner Boulevard and John West Road.
Two units were destroyed and six others were damaged before firefighters were able to knock down the flames.
Cathy Alexander told FOX 4 she and her 15-year-old son had to jump from a second floor balcony because of the smoke and flames. She said it was a scary experience and they lost all of their belongings, but they are fine.
“When I saw the flames coming through the front door I was thinking like, ‘How are we going to get out.” And then my mom she just said ‘Come to my room. We’re going to go out the window,’ I’m lucky to be alive and my mom alive,” her son, Joseph Alexander, said.
One person was taken to the hospital and another was treated at the scene. The extent of their injuries is still unclear.
The Red Cross is now helping about two dozen residents who were displaced.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. They’ve narrowed it down to the kitchen area of one bottom unit.
