A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for the rape of a woman in Deep Ellum.

Meanwhile, police are still looking for a second person they believe is also responsible for the attack and believe he was armed at the time.

It was surveillance video taken from a Deep Ellum business and help from an alert member of the public that led Dallas police to the identity of the teen seen in the video. Investigators say the forensic evidence from the 15-year-old connected him to the victim of a sexual assault.

“A search warrant was obtained for the DNA,” explained Dallas Police Major Jimmy Vaughn. “It was executed on that individual at which time yesterday, October 12, we were notified that the DNA profile came back as a match.”

Police say the victim came face-to-face with the duo on September 18 as she left work just before 3 a.m. and walked to meet some friends. The teens allegedly sexually assaulted her in a secluded area off Elm Street near North Trunk Avenue at gunpoint.

Since the unsettling attack, DPD added extra patrols to the popular nightspot. Dallas police are eager to locate the other suspect still at large and are asking the same public who helped them identify the first suspect to take another good look at the second suspect.

“As you can see, he's wearing a shirt with what our best guess is a resemblance to Marilyn Monroe,” Vaughn said.

Detectives haven’t had a chance to interview the 15-year-old who is in custody and are unsure if he's willing to cooperate and reveal who the other guy is.

Anyone with information is asked to call Dallas police.
