1 killed in fiery crash on I-20 in Arlington

Arlington police are investigating a deadly crash between a car and an 18-wheeler.

What We Know: The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near S. Cooper Street shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Investigators say a 2024 Hyundai Elantra was traveling at high speeds when it rear-ended the 18-wheeler, causing the car to catch on fire.

By the time police arrived, the Elantra was engulfed in flames.

Arlington Fire put out the fire and found the body of the driver inside. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

What We Don't Know: Investigators have not been able to identify the driver of the Hyundai.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will release the name once they have been positively identified.

Police are also investigating the cause of the crash. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a possible contributing factor,
