19-year-old killed, 3 injured in South Dallas shooting
DALLAS - Four people were shot, and one died in an afternoon shooting in South Dallas Monday.
It happened on Elsie Faye Heggins Street near Haskell Avenue and South Fitzhugh around 2 p.m.
Police say two women and a man were shot inside an apartment. Another man was shot outside a car wash.
One of the women, 19-year-old Savannah Rodriguez, died from her injuries.
The other woman and two men were taken to the hospital and are said to be stable.
Witnesses tell FOX 4 they saw a man in a hoodie with at least two weapons shooting up a home and a car wash.
One neighbor said she saw the suspect and said it was a man wearing a mask with two guns.
The front door and window of one unit of a housing complex in South Dallas are covered in bullet holes. Evidence markers on the sidewalk by the front door located what appear to be shell casings.
Dallas police say around 2 p.m. four people were shot at the intersection of Lyons and Elsie Faye Heggins streets.
Patricia Asberry lives in the housing complex and says she witnessed much of what happened Monday afternoon.
"I was coming up out of the parking lot right here. I stopped right there, and I seen the guy with two guns in his hands," she said. "That’s sad. That’s really heartbreaking. We have this all the time."
Asberry says she thinks this could be the shooter. She says he stared at her and her son in the car.
"I thought he was gonna shoot me because of the way he was looking at us. He had both his guns in his hands, and he stopped and paused and just stared at us for a while," she said.
SKY 4 shows the large scope of the investigation area.
Investigators combed through a neighboring park looking for evidence. Crime scene tape also sealed off a nearby coin-operated car wash as police searched that area.
Asberry says she saw the man get into a burgundy car, drive to the car wash and start shooting.
"Then when I stopped at the stop sign. He pulled in the car wash, and I look over and saw him shooting it up. He had both his guns just ‘Pop! Pop! Pop!’ Just shooting off," she said.
Asberry says she didn’t know her neighbors but believes it was a family who lived there.
"Little girl, woman and a man," she said.
Police have not released details about a potential motive. No one is in custody.
"Every time you turn around, there’s something happening," Asberry said.
Asberry wants the violence in her community to stop.
"People just dying, and this is really sad. My heart goes out to that family. That’s really, really bad," she said.
Police have not released an official suspect description or confirmed multiple shooting locations.
