Tiny homes for homeless to open in Dallas
A new project changes the approach of dealing with chronic homelessness in Dallas. It could change lives and save taxpayers a lot of money.
Larry James from CitySquare joins Good Day to talk about the Cottages at Hickory Crossing. It's a development of tiny homes located just west of Fair Park where Malcolm X Boulevard intersects Interstate 30.
The grand opening of the development is just two or three weeks away. After that, about 50 of Dallas' 1,500 homeless residents will be allowed to live there and get on-site access to healthcare, food and social services.
James said his organization picked residents based on several factors, including how much money the city might save on their care if they had a permanent home.
