DALLAS - Major changes to Interstate 30 through Dallas are in the works with the city ready to tell the Texas Department of Transportation what it wants.
The city has a vision for the plans that might include one or more deck parks.
The design project covers the stretch of I-30 between the convention center and Highway 80. And, the recommendations include more green spaces to break up all the concrete.
“We’re going to put in our requests, put in our asks and make sure that when TxDOT does this design that they are looking at elements that deal with kind of how to deal in urbanized areas with major thoroughfares and how to really stitch back together these neighborhoods and improve the quality of life,” said Dallas City Council member Lee Kleinman.
Backers of deck parks cite the success of Klyde Warren Park, which connects downtown and uptown Dallas.
Kleinman said it has more than paid for itself with the increased property values and in turn higher property tax revenue for the city.
