Dallas weather: Snow timeline for Thursday
DALLAS - Dallas is expected to see a range of winter weather on Thursday.
Snow, sleet, cold rain and more are expected to fall at points across the Metroplex into Friday morning.
Here is the latest timeline.
Dallas winter storm timing
Timeline:
The wintry mix will start very early on Thursday morning. We expect the wintry mix to reach much of the Metroplex before 6 a.m.
That wintry mix will pick up quickly through Thursday afternoon, becoming widespread by noon. We expect to see sleet, some snow and some cold rain. That rain would be mostly to the south and east. The farther north you go, the more snow you can expect.
On Thursday evening into Thursday night, we expect the precipitation to turn to snow. That's when we expect the most accumulation of snow.
Snowfall will end very early on Friday morning and exit to the east.
The north and northeast is expected to see 3 to 6 inches of snow, while much of the Metroplex will see about 2 to 4 inches, according to our forecast.
Areas south of I-20 could see 1 to 3 inches of snow.
Our southern portions are expected to see an inch or less.
DFW road conditions
What We Expect:
Road conditions will vary considerably depending on where you are.
On Wednesday night, we do not anticipate any issues on the roads.
Thursday morning, temperatures will hover right around, or just below, freezing. So initially, we could see some slick spots develop. Especially on elevated roadways.
We do not expect any major issues during the day on Thursday. If there are any roads that would see significant troubles, it would be those to the north and northeast of the Metroplex.
Thursday night, conditions will deteriorate, and you will want to stay off of the roads.
Friday morning, as the snow comes to an end, we will be dealing with slushy or even snow-covered roads.
7-Day Forecast
Following the winter storm, we expect things to stay chilly.
We will have low temperatures below freezing into next week.
