Dallas weather: Severe storms flood Dallas streets, cause major traffic issues
Despite the threat of hail and a possible tornado, it was the rain that wreaked havoc on Dallas.
Severe weather pounded North Texas for a second time this week.
Rush-hour drivers in Dallas found themselves in a lot of trouble. A severe thunderstorm rolled through Dallas just as people started getting home from work.
The heavy rain caused flash flooding, and it left some drivers stranded with their vehicles swamped.
Despite the threat of hail and a possible tornado, it was the rain that wreaked havoc on Dallas.
The blinding rain made travel treacherous for drivers. Many were caught out in the midst of the afternoon rush.
And that water stacked up, including on many residential streets, sloshing onto the hoods of cars in Old East Dallas.
Rich Lewis was one of the unfortunate drivers caught out in that part of town.
"The heavy rain had stopped, but we were following a line of traffic up the street, and the water was deep," he said. "But it wasn’t over the side of the door well, and we stalled. And the car won’t go into neutral, so it’s stuck in the middle of the road."
That left him waiting on a tow truck as other vehicles navigated a new hazard: stalled cars.
"It rained heavily but not for very long, but the water was gushing down the roads," Lewis said.
The storm also had first responders busy across Dallas. Crews were forced to shut down lanes on Garland Road near White Rock Lake.
And it may have some residents busy Saturday, cleaning up washed away landscaping or tracking down rogue trash cans.
Hail pounds areas south and west of Dallas-Fort Worth Wednesday night
To the south and southwest, there was a low tornado risk.
Eastern areas saw hail and damaging winds.

The children were playing in the front yard of their home when a nearby tree that was hit by lightning during Wednesday's storms.
Dallas College classes moved online starting after 2 p.m. on Friday, due to the anticipated bad weather.
Some showers could stick around until early Saturday morning.

After the potential for morning showers things will be windy and cool on Saturday.
Sunday is the best day of the weekend with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 70s.
Things should stay dry on Monday, before the chances of rain return on Tuesday and Wednesday.
