Dallas weather: How much will it snow on Thursday?
DALLAS - Winter storm watches are in effect for most of North Texas as we wait to see snow on Thursday and into Friday morning.
There is still some fine-tuning in the forecast, but here's where things stand as of Tuesday morning.
Widespread snow accumulations will cause significant travel disruptions along the I-20 corridor, including DFW.
Here's what we expect.
Is it going to snow on Thursday?
You can expect to see snow on Thursday, but it won't all be snow.
South of the DFW area will start with a wintry mix.
On Thursday night, we will shift to the heavier snow that will stick around.
The snow will continue until the early morning hours on Friday before moving out.
How many inches of snow are expected on Thursday?
How much snow you get will depend on where you live.
We expect the heaviest snow to be to our north and east.
Right now, we expect that area to get 3 to 6 inches or more.
In the Metroplex, we are expecting about 2 to 4 inches.
South of DFW and to the northwest we expect 1 to 3 inches.
Be aware, these numbers could change!
That number could be lower in the Metroplex if we see a layer of warm air stick around longer than expected. The number could be higher if the warm air moves out more quickly than we expect.
We will be fine-tuning our forecast until the snow arrives on Thursday.
No matter where you live expect to see major disruptions.
Winter Storm Watch
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of North Texas from late Wednesday night through Friday afternoon.
Winter Storm Watches are issued when conditions are favorable for a significant winter storm event (heavy sleet, heavy snow, ice storm, heavy snow and blowing snow or a combination of events.)
