The best friend of a woman who died in a flash flood said her friend was unfamiliar with a known trouble spot in Garland.

All of the rain we have seen is making life hard for people who live along the Brazos River in Parker County. It prompted a voluntary evacuation downstream on the Brazos for low-lying areas like Horseshoe Bend.

Strong storms in North Texas have been an almost weekly occurrence. Monday was no different with flash flood warnings for most of the day.

Garland officials say the city streets department operates and maintains the gates, but first responders have the authority to close them if they see a problem -- like flash flooding.

First responders are watching for a slew of weather-related incidents, including accidents on the roads to the potential of flash flooding and high water emergencies. One of the main things they want to warn people about is driving through standing or moving water.

All the recent rain is causing flooding problems for some businesses in Azle. The buildings were damaged by flash flooding Monday night. Now, the cleanup begins.

Floodwaters impacted parts of the Parker County Sheriff's Office. The parking lot and parts of the building flooded.

The National Weather Service extended its flash flood watch for North Texas and may do it again before the week is out. Crews are on standby in case there's a repeat of Sunday afternoon.

With more rain on the way the Fort Worth Fire Department is adding an additional Swift Water Rescue Team to be on standby.

An EF-0 struck in University Park and an EF-1 hit near Northaven Road just west of Central Expressway in Dallas. The three in Ellis County are unrated because the wind speed is unknown due to no damage found or reported.

First responders said they were swamped with water rescue calls Sunday afternoon.

The National Weather Service said a survey team will be sent out Monday morning to determine whether any of the damage was caused by a tornado.

Storms brought a lot of lightning and some damaging hail to North Texas overnight. Meteorologist Evan Andrews said the forecast calls for more on Tuesday.

Among those recovering from the tornadoes Monday night is a hero father who risked his own life by covering his child to protect her from the storm while it leveled their Waxahachie home.

The experienced chasers know there are risks in order to witness the incredible storms up close, but it’s unusual they are in the thick of it with storm victims.
