COVID-19 student cases across Texas schools double in one week

The number of COVID-19 cases among students nearly doubled across Texas in one week. Last week alone, districts reported to the state more than 27,000 student cases. Health experts fear a spike in cases after the Labor Day weekend. Meantime, measures to mitigate the spread vary.

Fort Worth ISD school board votes for a mask mandate if a judge agrees

During Thursday night’s special board meeting, Fort Worth ISD trustees voted to require face coverings for everyone at the district’s campuses. However, that mandate will only be allowed if a judge rules in favor of the district at a hearing on Sept. 3.

Virtual learning negatively impacted STAAR test scores, results show

Across the state, the failure rate for the reading portion of the STAAR test increased by 4% compared with 2019, and it was 16% higher on the math portion. Nearly 4 out of 10 students are not even close to being ready for the next grade. The biggest impact was felt by virtual learners.
