Report: Jerry Jones threatens to sue NFL, owners over Goodell contract extension

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has threatened to sue the NFL and other owners in his attempt to block a contract extension for commissioner Roger Goodell, according to the New York Times.

The newspaper reported the bombshell allegations on Wednesday afternoon citing multiple sources. The moves by Jones would be another escalation in his growing frustration over the league’s punishment of Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott over domestic violence allegations.

Jones reportedly told six owners last week that legal papers were ready to be served by this Friday if a committee didn’t stop working on efforts to extend Goodell’s contract. A few days later, those owners kicked him off the compensation committee.

Jones has reportedly hired high-profile attorney David Boies, who argued for Vice President Al Gore in Bush v. Gore and who was working for disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Jones said last month that Elliott was a victim of “an overcorrection” by league officials when they handed down a six-game suspension for alleged domestic violence involving an ex-girlfriend. Elliott’s legal saga is still ongoing, with another hearing in the case set for Thursday afternoon.
