WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor career rushing leader Shock Linwood has been suspended by acting head coach Jim Grobe because of attitude issues.
Linwood will miss the 25th-ranked Bears' game Saturday at No. 9 Oklahoma. Grobe said Monday that "it's not anything major" but that Linwood has some issues to work through.
"He's just not been himself, not really been as focused as I think he needs to be," Grobe said. "Things are not good right now, and I just want to help him get his focus back."
Linwood shoved a graduate assistant during the Bears' 62-22 home loss to TCU on Saturday, when he had only six carries. Asked about that altercation, Grobe said he didn't have any issues with what happened on the sideline between a player and assistant upset during a game.
Terence Williams is Baylor's leading rusher with 691 yards and eight touchdowns. Redshirt freshman JaMycal Hasty has had two 100-yard rushing games.
"We feel like we've got three running backs that can play, but Shock's kind of been shaky," Grobe said. "Shock's got some issues to work through, so we'll see where that goes."
After starting 24 games the previous two seasons, Linwood has started only twice this year for the Bears (6-2, 3-2 Big 12). He has 594 yards, with 237 of them coming against Iowa State a week after he had only two carries against Oklahoma State.
Earlier this season, Linwood broke the school's 35-year-old rushing record, and now has 4,056 yards in his career. His 36 rushing touchdowns are also a school record.
