IRVING, Texas - Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn was killed in a car crash Monday morning.

The fatal crash happened around midnight. Irving fire officials said Glenn and a woman were in a vehicle that rolled near the intersection of Highway 114 and Walnut Lane.

Glenn died at the scene. The woman in the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, fire officials said.

Sources told FOX 4 the woman was Glenn's new fiancée, Verina LeGrand. The two recently celebrated the birth of a baby boy.

An October Facebook post shows Glenn proposing to LeGrand at an event supporting his nonprofit group, 83KidsFoundation. Fort Worth Star-Telegram sports writer Clarence Hill was among the circle of friends who shared in the couple's joy.

"I reached out to them after the engagement,” Hill said. “Seemed like he was at peace."

The 43-year-old Pro Bowler was picked 7th overall by the New England Patriots in the 1996 NFL Draft. He played for five years with the Cowboys. He was released from the team in 2008 because of a knee injury.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Glenn was someone people enjoyed being with while he played.

“He was a gentle and kind hearted young man. We are all terribly saddened by this news of his passing. Too young and too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his loved ones and all of the people who were touched by his life,” Jones said.

The transition to retirement was met with run-ins with the law and several arrests. But those close to Glenn say he settled down and made his family and working with kids through his foundation a priority.
