FC Dallas earns 1-1 draw with Crew, moves atop MLS standings

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Tesho Akindele tied it in the 77th minute and FC Dallas moved alone atop the overall MLS standings, salvaging a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.

Maximiliano Urruti sent a 25-yard blast crashing off the right post to set up Akindele's goal. The rebound deflected off the back of goalkeeper Steve Clark, who had made a diving save attempt, and rolled into on open area in front of goal where Akindele raced in for an easy finish.

Justin Meram opened the scoring in the ninth minute, heading home Federico Higuain's corner kick. The Crew had a number of early opportunities to extend their lead that were stopped by goalkeeper Chris Seitz, who finished with five saves.

FC Dallas (3-1-1) improved its home unbeaten streak against Columbus to seven games. The Crew (0-2-2) — last year's MLS Cup runner-up — remained winless in the 2016 campaign.
