Jerry Jones: 'The hay is in the barn' when it comes to Mike McCarthy's future

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the outcome of Sunday's game will not have an impact on head coach Mike McCarthy's future with the team.

What We Know: Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders concludes the five-year contract McCarthy signed when he took the job from Jones in 2020.

What They're Saying: "The hay is in the barn, really, as far as our staff is concerned and the qualities of each of the coaches. I don't think that something that would happen out here Sunday would impact where we are going to be as we go forward," Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Friday. "It doesn't have any effort on my part to look and see the positives of what we've had as a team under Mike McCarthy."

McCarthy was also asked if he would be back next year.

"Yeah, I hope so. It's the Dallas Cowboys, it's one-of-a-kind. I love coming to work every day and I think doing this as long as I've done it, that's the gauge for me. If I don't jump out of bed then it's time to maybe do something else," the head coach said. "I'd say it was a rough start, but I felt like year 2 we got the program going in the right direction and have done a lot of good things."

By The Numbers: McCarthy's record as the Cowboys' head coach is 49-34.

During his tenure, McCarthy's Cowboys have scored more points on offense and taken the ball away more times on defense than every single team except the Buffalo Bills.

If McCarthy loses his job, the killer will be his playoff failures.

Under McCarthy, the Cowboys posted a 1-3 record in the postseason.
