A good day got even better for Shin-Soo Choo. The Rangers outfielder was named to his first MLB All-Star game on Sunday night.

Choo was picked as a reserve for the American League team, becoming the third South Korean native to ever be selected as an All-Star.

The announcement is an early birthday gift for Choo, who turns 36 years old on July 13. He's the second oldest first-time All-Star in Rangers history. Pitcher Charlie Hough was 38 years old when he made it in 1986.

Earlier on Sunday, Choo set a club record by reaching base for a 47th straight game this season, surpassing Julio Franco's mark set in 1993. Texas blanked the Tigers 3-0 to split the series.

The All-Star game is Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
