WYLIE, Texas - A North Texas family is celebrating the birth of their new baby girl after having an unexpected delivery on the side of the road.
The Story: Jennifer McDonald said she began having contractions and called her husband, Drew.
Because his wife had gone into false labor earlier in the week, he held off on coming home.
Two hours later, Jennifer called again.
"She was like, hey, you need to get home," McDonald recalled. "I came in the door and I saw her in labor and I knew we had to get in the truck right away."
The couple began driving down Parker Road to the hospital, but the baby had other plans.
"She looks over at me, and she's like, this baby's coming," McDonald said. "I look over, and I see the baby's head coming out, and I am freaking out."
Drew called 911 to report his wife was giving birth on the side of Parker Road in Wylie.
"Next thing I see, the baby is in the seat and Jennifer picks up the baby, and we hear her cry, which was the greatest sound ever," said Drew McDonald.
"It was very scary, but as soon as Valerie was born, and I heard her cry and breathe, that just brought all of the fears just to the side," said Jennifer McDonald.
Paramedics took Jennifer and baby Valerie to the hospital.
The McDonald's say they are grateful everything went well, even though it was unexpected.
"It was truly amazing how God worked everything out. It was a miracle," McDonald said.
