White Settlement Police now allowed to wear cowboy hats

Police officers in White Settlement will have an opportunity to change up their look to a more Western feel.

Police Chief Christopher Cook authorized all police officers to wear western-style hats while on duty to "capture the western history of the town."

The hats are optional for officers. They can choose to wear straw hats during the warmer summer months and black felt hats during the colder winter months.

The department received hats from anonymous donors and significant wholesale discounts from a local ranch wear shop.

Several other police departments in the Dallas-Fort Worth area including Grand Prairie and Mesquite already allow officers to wear the very Texan accessory.
