The United States Department of Transportation has banned all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones from airplanes.

The order goes into effect at 11 A.M. Saturday. It declares the phone may not be carried aboard planes, packed in checked bags or shipped as air cargo. Passengers or crew members who attempt to travel with the phones will have them confiscated; and could be fined. Numerous fires have been reported as a result of the phone, including one on a Southwest Airlines flight earlier this month.

Professor Ankur Jain teaches mechanical and aerospace engineering at UT Arlington. He joined Brandon Todd in the Fox 4 studios, Friday night, to discuss potential problems with the batteries and the unprecedented nature of the government's ban.
