'Unsubstantiated' threats continue to disrupt class at L.D. Bell High School

For the second day in a row, texts threats that police have called unsubstantiated are causing concern at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst.

On Wednesday morning, Hurst police said someone anonymously sent a threatening message to about 15 students. The author claimed there would be a shooting on campus.

Officers were called in to search the school and students were told to remain in their classrooms until given the all-clear.

Police determined the threat was not credible but said officers remained on campus throughout the day to provide security.

On Thursday, Hurst police said officers returned to the schools as a precaution because students continued to receive anonymous threatening message overnight.

“While we are unable to disclose all of the details of our investigation, we can assure you that we are monitoring social media and are continuing to investigate the threats.  The safety of our high school students is our utmost priority,” Capt. Nate Duermeyer said in a statement.

Police said the rumors of a bomb threat and gunfire are not true and the school was not placed on lockdown Thursday morning. The students who showed up for classes were told to resume their normal schedule.

Investigators are working with experts to find the person responsible.
