The body of a young female was found in a landfill near the Arlington-Euless border on Wednesday afternoon.

Bedford police were on the scene along with Arlington police combing through the trash surrounding the body. They were there to determine if the body was that of a 14-year-old girl who went missing two days ago.

Police said landfill employee discovered the body shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are treating this as a death investigation and are working with the medical examiner's office to make a positive identification and determine how the person died.

Bedford detectives have been looking for a missing 14-year-old, Kaytlynn Cargill, who was last seen near her Bedford home on Oak Creek Lane on Monday evening. They were knocking on doors on Wednesday and asking residents in the Oak Creek Apartment Complex if they had seen the missing teen.

Kaytlynn’s family told police she went out to walk her dog around 6:20 p.m. and never came home. The dog was later found tied up.

When police issued the missing person advisory on Tuesday they said they did not have a reason to believe Kaytlynn was in danger — and no Amber Alert was issued.

The missing girl's neighbors were shocked to hear about the investigation.

"First thing I did was say a prayer,” said Carol Champion, who lives nearby. “I said I hoped that they find her and she's ok. That's what I did. I was very hurt because nowadays you see things like that on TV. But  when you see it in your own neighborhood, it kind of hurts."

Bedford police will only confirm at this point that they are aware of the body at the landfill and are waiting for a positive ID.

There are ways for the landfill to determine which truck dumped trash in which area of the landfill and where that truck made a pick up.
