In this week's Trackdown, a Midland man who came to North Texas to watch the Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia championship fight lost his life in what homicide detectives call a deadly fit of road rage.

Daniel Aleman was gunned down at Stemmons Freeway Service Road and Empire Central on March 17. Police hope someone can help identify the owner of the truck the shooters were in.

Authorities say Aleman was killed after having a confrontation with another motorist. He was on the street at almost 3 a.m. that day because he was going to pick up a friend who was ending a night of partying.

Aleman was murdered in Dallas one day before his twenty-ninth birthday.

“There was the Errol Spence Jr. fight that night, so that’s why the victim was in town from Midland,” explained Dallas Police Det. Frank Serra. “He was trying to go pick up a friend, and there was a traffic jam.”

Aleman’s friend was waiting at XTC Cabaret, which is north of Empire Central along the Stemmons Service Road.

“There was a large traffic jam due to the amount of people that were in the area,” Serra said. “The victim was trying to go northbound on the service road, and the suspect was going westbound on Empire Central.”

The roadragers were two Hispanic men and a woman in a late 2000s white Chevrolet Silverado with dark tinted windows that sat low. It had a dark bed or dark bed covering.

Cellphone video recorded Aleman's black BMW he had just bought in Dallas the same weekend he was killed.

“They pull nose to nose because of the traffic jam. Neither one of them can move. They end up getting out of the vehicles, and a short altercation takes place — verbal and physical,” Serra said. “There's also a Latin female who's in the truck, and she gets out with a wrench and begins to hit the victim’s vehicle. The fight kind of stops. All parties go back into their vehicles, but neither one of them move.”

The detective said Aleman got back out of his car and walked up to the Silverado to talk to them and get them to move along.

“When he walks up to the vehicle, he is shot and he is killed,” Serra said. “The suspect vehicle then goes under I-35 and then it turns back southbound.”

The truck is distinctive enough that Serra thinks someone will recognize it.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for the right tip. Call Det. Serra at (214) 671-4320.
