Texas means crazy in Norwegian slang
It turns out the people of Norway have a fun way to use Texas as a slang word – it’s used in Norwegian to mean crazy.
While the discovery was made on Reddit and started spreading form there, it’s something that might have been happening as far back as the 1970s. As proof, internet sleuths have found Norwegians who say a wild party could be described as “totally Texas” or a soccer match was “completely Texas.”
One commercial for a pizza place in Norway described their “Texas deals.”
When Texas is used as an adjective, it’s usually used in the phrase: det var helt Texas when describing a situation or happening, not a person.
So just how did Texas come to be used as slang for crazy? Norwegians said it’s from Texas’ association with the Wild West and western movies that gained a foothold in Norway’s culture.
