Teen driver arrested for deadly hit-and-run in Lewisville

Police in Lewisville believe a 16-year-old girl is responsible for the crash that killed a 45-year-old man over the weekend.

Surveillance video and viewer tips led police to the teenage driver’s apartment on Fox Avenue Tuesday night. She was taken into custody, but police have not yet said what charges she will face.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Highway 121 Business. Witnesses said the driver of a two-toned Ford F-150 pickup truck hit and killed a man who was walking on the side of the highway.

The truck stopped for about 10 seconds and then fled the scene, police said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, but did not survive. He has been identified as Jose Vasquez-Munoz of North Carolina.

Accident investigators found a Ford emblem and pieces from a front grill assembly at the scene. Surveillance video also shows damage on the suspect’s front right headlight. That evidence will be compared to evidence collected at the suspect's apartment.

Police said the case is ongoing.
