DALLAS - Texans were ready to return to the State Fair of Texas this year.
Fair officials announced more than 2.2 million people attended the fair in 2021 during its 24-day run, which ended Sunday.
The 2020 fair didn’t take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was replaced with a sized-down drive thru version that attracted about 50,000 people in vehicles. About 2.5 million people attended in 2019.
"We are incredibly grateful that we played a part in reuniting friends and families for the time-honored tradition of the State Fair," said State Fair of Texas president Mitchell Glieber in a statement.
Officials said about 520,000 corny dogs were sold during the fair’s run this year, which is about 21,000 per day.
The Dallas County Health Department gave more than 1,000 free COVID-19 vaccines to fairgoers.
