DALLAS - Dallas police officers paid tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters for Police Memorial Day.
Former officers, family, and citizens joined DPD officers at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center on Wednesday.
The 80-plus names of those killed in the line of duty since 1881 were read aloud.ahead of a wreath-laying ceremony.
The Dallas Police Choir and Denton ISD's Pecan Creek Elementary Choir also performed at the service.
During his speech, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said it’s important for citizens to remember the sacrifices these men and women make on a daily basis.
“Now we honor them because it’s the right thing to do and because we owe it to them and to you their families, but it’s also important that we always carry the pain of loss inside of us to remind us of the sacrifices that you all make for us," Rawlings said.
The ceremony usually takes place outside, but it had to be moved indoors because of storms.
