Slow-speed chase through Dallas ends without arrest

Police chased a suspect in a stolen vehicle for about 45 minutes early Friday morning. He eventually got away.

According to early reports, the chase started before 6:30 a.m. in Garland. Officers from Mesquite and the Dallas Sheriff’s Office joined in. The Texas Department of Public Safety’s helicopter also followed overhead.

Few details about the suspect were immediately available. His gray Dodge Charger was reportedly stolen.

The chase weaved its way into Dallas and then onto Interstate 30. It went south on Riverfront Boulevard and N. Corinth Street Road.

Video from FOX 4 viewers showed the suspect slowly driving around and around in the neighborhoods and parking lots near the Dallas VA hospital.

Around 7:15 a.m., Garland police decided to call off the chase. Sheriff’s deputies and the DPS helicopter also backed off.

The suspect remains at large.
