Heavy rain is to blame for a sinkhole that opened up in northwest Dallas Wednesday morning.

A man in a pickup truck got stuck in it just after midnight. He was heading south on Channel Drive and said he felt a sudden drop. His truck ended up with one wheel in the hole and one in the air.

The pickup truck driver managed to climb out of the truck. He was a little banged up, but had no serious injuries.

Dallas city workers are now at the scene and have closed off the residential street near Royal Lane and Webb Chapel Road. They estimate the hole is about 4 or 5 feet across and 6 to 8 feet deep.

Workers determined a ruptured 18-inch sewer mainline caused the collapse. Repairs work is not expected to be complete until Sunday.
