Signs point to another COVID-19 spike in North Texas soon
DALLAS - Hospitals in Dallas County are starting to see another increase in the number of COVID-19 patients.
New models from UT Southwestern Medical Center show it as mainly unvaccinated young people being admitted.
Hospital admission rates are flat among most other groups in the country.
The recent improvement in daily COVID-19 case numbers reported locally has stopped.
There were more than 1,300 new cases and 34 deaths reported Thursday in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties.
The seven-day rolling average jumped to 866 cases per day, which is the highest in nearly two weeks.
Statewide, the number of coronavirus tests fell to less than 50,000 on Wednesday but the percentage of positive tests jumped to more than 6.5%. That’s the highest in a month.
Every previous surge in cases has been proceeded by a similar jump in the positivity rate.
Experts are concerned more people will need to be hospitalized after they travel and gather for the holidays.
