DALLAS - Dallas police are investigating after shots were fired at a group of Woodrow Wilson High School football players.
It happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday as the players were walking back to school after practicing at Randall Park.
According to the police report, about 50 football players were wrapping up practice at Randall Park, which is across the street from the school. They were crossing east over S. Glasgow Drive when police say a dark-colored older model sedan with three suspects inside almost hit a couple of players and kept going.
A few football players called the suspects names.
The driver turned around and turned the lights off.
Someone in the car stuck a handgun out the window and fired one shot into the air and another toward the team, who was heading to the locker room.
“There were some words exchanged,” said Dallas ISD Police Chief Craig Miller. “As a result of that, some tempers became heightened and some shots were fired from that vehicle.”
The boys scattered, and no one was hurt.
Two shell casings were found on the street, but police never found any bullet holes.
The incident comes almost exactly two years after a 16-year-old Woodrow Wilson student was shot and wounded at the same park when he intervened in a fight involving several girls.
As they did then, DISD police added officers around the campus following this latest incident.
