Search continues for missing 8-year-old girl in Sherman

Crews are continuing to search for an 8-year-old girl after she went missing following a Christmas Eve crash in Sherman.

Emergency crews in Sherman are working for the third straight day as they search for an 8-year-old girl who went missing after a crash on Christmas Eve.

What We Know: Search efforts continued at 7 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Police say an SUV carrying six people was traveling from Durant, Oklahoma to McKinney on Highway 75 when it crashed on the morning of Christmas Eve.

Police believe the SUV hydroplaned because there was heavy rain in the area at the time. The waters swept the SUV down the ditch.

Rescue crews worked to get the occupants out of the SUV. One person, an adult man died, and the girl washed away in the creek.

A number of local and state agencies, including Texas Task Force 2, are participating in the search.

It is believed the little girl who remains missing is his daughter.

The four family members who were rescued were taken to hospitals, but have since been released.

What They're Saying: Police say they don't want to give false hope in their search for the the girl.

"We have not stopped hoping for a miracle," Sherman Police Lt. Sam Boyle said. "What's at the forefront of all our minds is the family who is still looking for their little girl."

How You Can Help: Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 903-892-7290.
