Crews are continuing to search the Trinity River in Dallas for the bodies of two people believed to have drowned.
DALLAS - Crews are continuing to search the Trinity River in Dallas for the bodies of two people believed to have drowned.
Dallas Fire-Rescue crews searched for two people in the Trinity River after they never resurfaced after going underwater Easter Sunday.
The incident happened in the Elm Fork of the Trinity River near California Crossing Park in Northwest Dallas.
DFR used sonar to scan the river, but were unable to find anything.
Operations were stopped Sunday when the investigation shifted from rescue to recovery mode.
On Monday, authorities said crews would recover the bodies after they resurface. Police determined the water was moving too fast for divers to enter the water.
On Tuesday, a Dallas Police Dive Team and DFR Swiftwater returned to the scene and launched a boat using sonar and down imaging to search under the water for the men, but nothing was found. Search crews also looked through the spillway and the shoreline.
A group of people protesting what they considered to be insufficient recovery efforts by Dallas crews.
A family spokesperson said the two men were young Guatemalan immigrants who worked as construction workers. Both of the men were at the park for an Easter cookout and when one slipped while trying to clean a grill. The other man jumped in to help and disappeared.
Protesters say they spoke to at least one Dallas City Council person.
Dallas police said on Wednesday they continued to use boats, a helicopter, drones and sonar to search the area, but nothing was found.
The search was called off for the day before 4 p.m., but crews are expected to continue searching at 7 a.m. Thursday.
