ALLEN - The bell rang in the start of a new school year Wednesday morning for kids in 52 school districts across North Texas.
Students returned to classes districts like Allen, Azle, Cedar Hill, Coppell, Corsicana, Decatur, Denton, Duncanville, Granbury, Keller and Lewisville.
Good Day’s Hanna Battah visited with parents and students on their first day at Kerr Elementary in Allen.
The district spent $13 million renovating the school and is also opening the new $79 million Lowery Freshman Center for ninth graders.
Students in Allen will also notice some new security measures including mandated emergency drills within the first 10 days, surveillance systems on campuses and buses, canine weapon and drug sweeps on secondary campus and a Tip411 reporting system.
The three largest districts in North Texas – Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington – start next Monday.
